Discount First Class travel without using any frequent flyer miles (Aruba for less than free)

The first rule of discount First Class travel is try to make your destination into a stopover point and you can often get a reasonable fare plus a free side trip beyond.

Example: The First Class round-trip fare from Monterey to Philadelphia is $1,264.

Surprisingly, United has a Monterey-Philadelphia-Aruba-Monterey all or one fare that comes in lower than Monterey-Philadelphia-Monterey. In fact, United allows a traveler from Monterey to stop in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Chicago, Denver or Washington/Dulles on his way to Aruba.

So the traveler (me!) got a discount First Class travel ticket to Philadelphia and a free ticket to Aruba for the same low price.

You can work this strategy for many destinations. Search for destinations that will allow you to insert a stop –- at the city of your business meeting –- and then on to somewhere you wouldn’t mind being for a few days -– the Caribbean.

This discount First Class travel strategy frequently works for South America and Mexico destinations, as well.
