First Class to the Caribbean for 11 Cents
Depending on your departure city, you can forget 2-for-1s for your Caribbean holiday. For instance, now you can fly Los Angeles to Jamaica for only 11 cents per mile.
That price is determined by dividing the ticket price by the number of miles flown. On a per-mile basis, some of these fares are hard to beat, and at these prices, not worth using your frequent flyer miles.
Buying two published First Class fares will usually cost less than using Continentals or Deltas (Amex IAP) 2-for-1 programs because companion tickets are valid only with full fares, and only from two or three US departure cities.
Forget elite status upgrades, too. In this case, theyre a lose-lose proposition.
One lesser-known airline to consider is Spirit Airlines, which serves 10+ Caribbean destinations, and whose fares are usually about half those of the big carriers.
Spirit calls itself the largest Ultra Low Cost Carrier (ULCC) in the United States, Latin America and Caribbean. Its all-Airbus fleet, the youngest in the Americas, flies more than 200 daily flights to 43 destinations.
