On a per-mile basis, discount First Class airfares to Hawaii can be as low as any fares worldwide. And one of my favorite pricing anomalies can sometimes net a ticket to Hawaii for free.
How? Disproportionately low discount First Class airfares from the East Coast, for example, include Baltimore/Washington-Honolulu at just $1,293. If that sounds expensive, consider that Baltimore/Washington to London is almost half the distance to Hawaii, but can cost two to four times more.

Many other cheap tickets to Hawaii are available in the $1,400 to $1,800 range.
The little-known secret
If youre flying First Class from the East to the West Coast, you can sometimes tack on Hawaii for free.
Heres one example: The published Baltimore/Washington-Los Angeles fare is $1,458 round-trip on American First Class, but the lowest First Class fare to Honolulu is $1,293. Thats $165 less for twice the distance.
Plus the fare allows a stop in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or San Jose, for a delightful low fee of $55.81.
In other words, American Airlines pays you $110.29 to make a side-trip to Hawaii. Hows that for a discount First Class airfare to Hawaii?

Hi there, I am somewhat confused about how I can get other airlines, like continental and delta to redeem airline miles to Hawaii on Northwest. One airline always sends me back to the original airline saying I can not transfer miles or must make reservations on their airline exclusively. I live in Hawaii and travel to anywhere needs to be first class as far as I am concerned. Also I used to be able to count on Continental for upgrades but now they make them impossible to get. It doesn't seem to matter how far in advance I book, they hold the seats to the last moment I guess. I really could use some help in getting first class from hawaii on a regular basis My email is sywendykona@aol.com please help
sroberts, I also live in Hawaii and can feel your pain. The best chance of flying up front is to stick with one mileage program and gain elite status. This you likely know, but wanted to throw it out there just in case. I fly on NW or put DL and CO flights on NW FFQ program due to the Hawaii Resident Elite Certificates afforded to even "lowly" silver status. As to getting the other partners to put you on NW, my experience is they always put you on their flights first if available, as it cost them less money. You could try routing through a hub that either does not fly to, where they are "forced" to route you to NW. Hope that helps. Aloha
can i use my delta miles on virgin
