I've closely tracked summer discount Business Class fares to Europe since they began, and I can tell you that this year's deals seem predictable, and good.

As announced in March's First Class Flyer, Premium Service Carriers (PSCs) British Airways and Virgin Atlantic were the first to cut Business Class fares to Europe (last month). These are recommended, of course, to less price-conscious travelers.

Now, Continental and US Airways, both Mass Market Carriers (MMCs) unable to compete on service with the PSCs, have resorted (as they have for years) to slashing fares to fill seats—that would otherwise go empty during the summer travel season, when business travel slows. Fares start at $1,598 round-trip, plus taxes.

Yet, this is not the time to buy, as some may think. Why?

Simple. Before long, many more MMCs will realize that their Business Class cabins will be half-empty, too, if they don't slash rates. And rates they will slash.

Details of the escalating fare war, including best routes, best seats, best fares, and best values—by alliance—will be published in April's First Class Flyer.

I am looking to fly to London late July return Mid August. I have been watching fares and they seem to be going up. Back in April I could book a charter flight for $1050 incl tax but now the best rate I can find seems to be at least $1200. These are all coach fares. I ideally want to fly from Vancouver, BC, but if prices were drastically different I would be willing to fly out of Seattle. Should I wait to book as I have a tour already paid for that runs the dates above.
