Sometimes, not often, we find discounts on top of already discounted fares — a convergence of savings that yields an irresistible deal. With a New York-London round-trip in Brithish Airways’ Premium Economy for $186, this is one of those times.

British Airways is in the midst of a fare promotion, to be ticketed through Feb. 19, that cuts $250 or more from the cost of a Premium Economy round-trip between London and any of their 20+ US gateways. That drops a $686 New York-London fare to $436; a decent enough deal if you stop right there. But wait ...

This week, BA has announced a separate promotion offering a $250 discount on Premium Economy (aka, World Traveller Plus) available exclusively to ba.com members. This offer applies to online bookings only, ticketed by March 8, 2008, for travel through May 25, 2008.

These specials combine to trim $500 from a $686 ticket! That’s a 73% discount to Europe in Premium Economy. That’s London for $186 round-trip. That’s the kind of fare people brag about at cocktail parties for years. It might as well be you.

For the left-coasters, the numbers go like this: Los Angeles-London standard fare, $1,071; minus $291 discount through Feb. 19, $780; minus additional $250 discount, $530. You save 50%.

BA’s Premium Economy offers a separate cabin with seats incrementally larger than those in coach. It’s a nice alternative for the more budget-conscious traveler, but it won’t cause the well-heeled to abandon the comforts found in Business and First Class. If you require that nicer class of travel, don’t be miffed; BA has you covered. These rock-bottom Premium Economy fares are upgradeable to Business Class. And if you don’t have the 25,000 program miles needed for the upgrade, you can buy them and still get the New York-London round-trip for under a grand.

I cannot seem to make this deal work via the ba.com website... the 250+250 discount not applied

I also was not able to make this deal work even though I was logged at BA.com. Only one $250 discount was applied.

This is not the first time that "deals" are offered by BA but are no where to be found when you immediately try to book them. I believe this was my last try. I am thoroughly disgusted.

Perhaps FlightBliss ought to verify the accuracy of the information that they propagate.

I tried every vriation, over almost all the dates from now to May 25, and could not reroduce the $186 RT. The closest I got was $637.

GREAT TIP!!!! I just booked my trip for travel on the 11March and my price was 186, of course taxes always apply taxes (421.30)

Posted by: JHanlon | 2:08 PM CT February 15

March 11 from NY shows $184 and for next two weeks. On March 25 the price is $301 and up to $587 by May. Not much of an offer and the date limits are bogus.

The fare indeed prices at $186 round-trip, plus taxes -- and is the lowest I've ever seen, perhaps the lowest anyone has ever seen. (Yes, taxes to London can be ridiculous.) As always, and identified here, availability oftentimes will vary, unfortunately, as it does on everything air travel.

I was not able to get this deal. I am in Chicago and tried it from ORD as well as JFK for travel in May...no luck.

I have tried to book the discounted fare to London from SF. The best fare I could get was $1247!! This isn't anywhere close to the "deal" you advertised. Perhaps you do not count over $400 in taxes and fees, let alone a high fare. I think your information is very misleading. You should check how much a ticket "really" costs and then give the information.

the taxes and fees are just something we have to learn to live with, I'm afraid at least BA doesn't show a one-way fare and then hedge it with all kinds of restrictions that the fare is only available with a round-trip purchase
