If you're planning a trip to fly Business Class to Australia or New Zealand from North America, and saving money is your priority, you can cut thousands of dollars from the airfare with one simple move: Make a connection in Tahiti, Fiji or the Cook Islands.

For example, instead of taking a Los Angeles to Sydney non-stop, which can cost up to $13,147 round-trip in Business Class, book a flight in two segments to obtain a discounted Business Class fare.

The Los Angeles to Fiji Business Class airfare is $3,779 round-trip and the Fiji to Sydney Business Class airfare is $998. That's a savings of $8,370 or roughly 64%.

This strategy works on a number of airlines.

One caveat: New Business Class seats have not come to these Pacific Island routes. They have arrived on the non-stops to Auckland and Australia.

This strategy will likely negate the possibility of a sleeper seat, and the spacing between the seats may be similar to domestic FC. A comment on this issue would be appreciated.

Do you know anything about A.O.M. French Airline? They are offering a free business or first seat when one is purchased on a new route from Miami to Paris. Does this airline have am international business and first or is it more like domestice? Also, we are booked to Paris with an upgrade through London in November. We fly back direct from Paris to Miami. Do you have any strategy on how we can get that changed to a direct flight to Paris? So far we have had no luck getting an upgrade. Thanks.

Is this route serve by a Star Alliance partner? Or does anyone know of another way to reduce the US-Australia route using UAL or Air New Zealand? Edgar

Does anyone have any suggestions on flying first or business class one way from New Zealand to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle or New York next March? (I am traveling the other way by Cunard).

You might want to check one of the online travel sites for your one way flight to New Zealand. I used Orbitz. I found several good fares to LAX from Auckland. I found an even better one into Newark using Hawaian Airlines and Continental. So you might want to check them out. Just make sure they have decent seats that lay flat or nearly flat. There's nothing worse than being miserable for several days after a flight because of rotten airline seats. I know from experience because I have back and neck problems!

My wife & I are planning a cruise next January from Sydney to Auckland. We have enough United miles to get two business class seats; however, we need to fly from LAX to Sydney, cruise to Auckland, and fly back to LAX from Auckland. How can we make sure we get good business class seats with United? I am thinking of using the miles as soon as the LAX to Sydney flight becomes available but the problem I would have is that the Auckland to LAX would not yet be listed for another couple of weeks.

Isn't there a danger that if you miss a connection due to weather or whatever with this strategy that the airline will treat it as a missed flight and nail you with higher chrages?

Where did you see the offer from AOM? I'm pretty sure that airline went out of business several years ago.
