The best First Class seat to Asia is in the most exclusive First Class cabin in the air: eight leather upholstered seats, 35 inches wide (the widest on any commercial airline), that convert to a full-size flat bed.
These First Class seats are available on B777-300ER aircraft serving San Francisco and Los Angeles. (They are also available on the Singapore-Paris and Singapore-Frankfurt routes.)
These First Class seats are equipped with a sleek 23-inch LCD screen with USB ports, an in-seat power supply, as well as new active noise reduction headsets.
Singapore Airlines also offers the best Business Class seat. At 30 inches its the widest and reclines to 180 degrees.

When does United release seats that can be upgraded to. I am a 1K trying to get a upgraded business class seat on a flight that is only 38% full from Hong Kong to Ohare in early september and United will not relaease any seats for upgrade?
Singapore Airlines is the very best and worth the extra cost. United Airlines doesn't compare and is very stingy with upgrades. Mileage seats on United are getting harder and harder to obtain even with advance planning.
The SQ flights are between SFO-ICN and LAX-TPE. The LAX-TPE route (SQ 27) does not operate the 77W daily so check to make sure you book the day that aircraft type flies in order to have the new configuration F and C seats.
SIngapore Airlines is the way to go if you are flying to Asia. No other airline can compare.
I live in Hawaii (go ahead, feel sorry for me!). Anyway, I find that more and more airlines are not stopping in Hawaii on their way to Asia or the South Pacific. I'd love to take Singapore Airlines, but they don't stop here. We can catch an Air Pacific airliner to Fiji, but they originate in Vancouver and just stop here to pick up passengers who will pay an outrageous amount to fly to Fiji. The flight from Los Angeles to Fiji doesn't even stop here. Go ahead, feel sorry for me.
My wife and I flew SQ SYD/SIN business class (747-400) with flat/angled sleeper beds. Great! Next leg was SIN/IST business class (777-300) with old fashioned reclining seats. I was very disappointed as my wife has a bad back and cannot sit up for very long and this flight was 10 hours long. I decided as the return trip from BCN/SIN was in another 777-300 (SQ wanted to charge extra to fly in their 300ER), I paid to fly BCN/LON to fly home LON/SYD in the SQ 747-400 so my wife could lie down when her back was tired. I'm still waiting to try out the new business class that SQ are crowing about.
We are planning a trip to Thailand for our family of 4. What airline is the best value? Can Marriott rewards points or Merrill Lynch points help?
Sorry but I am under impressed with what I read, also having purchased the London flight guide I find it of little practical use as most of the information is available by the monthly FCF which I find is excellent.
I flew EVA Air and paid $300 over economy for EVERGREEN CLASS-$1100 total SFO-Thailand. Price equal to all others economy. Felt like First class to me! Big first class seat w/ personal entertainment. Clean quilted blanket, comfy pillow, and sachet w/ hand lotion, personal toothbrush and toothpaste. Free new deck of playing cards. Good food and often. Continual service. and 12,900 elite miles w/ CONTINENTAL! Worth $300 easily!!
I'm built like a refrigerator on stilts, and the new SQ business class left me over 6" on one side of the chair. The absolute best. You need to take and get the SQ flight SIN-Seoul-SFO, the other two as of this Spring don't use the new seats. The Seoul stop is a short 45 minutes to clean the plane, you then get right on. Cannot say more. SQ the absolute best. 2nd choice as value is Thai's BKK to LAX nonstop, cheaper by $1500 than the other options in biz across Atlantic. The seats are the same (can't tell the difference) as LH's new seats - both 170 degree almost flatbed, and you cannot beat the price...I go to/from DXB as am with UN in Kabul...and my 6'4" not thin body needs it...
I`m bying a economy ticket for my girlfriebd from Taiwan. Since the price between british airways and singapore airlines is only 100 $ more expensive I wonder. Is the economy class in singapore airlines also much better than other comparable economy classes?. She´ll be flying from Taipei to Copenhagen with a stop in Singapore in a Boeing 777 200e.
THAILAND: It's a toss up on who to fly to Bangkok: SQ has an all Exec Coach flight from EWR which has excellent seating, and a commons area in the galley. Its muchless $ than Bus class, but so much better than United's bus class. The Stopover in SIN isnt too bad, as the airport is awesome! Thai Airways flies non stop to BKK from JFK and their service out ranks most in either exec econ, or Bus class. At 5 trips per year,Im mostly on Thai.
When I tried to book Thai to Bangkok Business Class, the fine print states "...if BC seats unavailable you will be AUTOMATICALLY downgraded to Prem and then to Economy." Why would one book a 17 hour flight with the possibility of going economy??? No Thai for me, if I understand the booking rules.
The best airline I have ever flown is Malaysia from Bangkok to LAX...I have flown both 1st and business, and the service, attitudes, and delicious meals of this company are beyond reproach...I will always when possible fly Malaysia.. John Hathaway aka Johmn DeFiennes
